Ensure beauty treatments are conducted by qualified professionals

Ensure beauty treatments are conducted by qualified professionals

The Issue

Having dedicated three years to studying beauty therapy, I understand the dedication, training, practical experience, and knowledge required to perform treatments safely and professionally. It is frustrating to see individuals complete only a one-day or online course and then begin charging clients without the same level of education or hands-on experience. This not only undermines qualified professionals but can also put client safety at risk.

Beauty therapy is about far more than appearance. Properly qualified therapists spend years studying anatomy, hygiene, health and safety, contraindications, and client care through recognised qualifications such as SVQ, NVQ, or HNC courses. Clients deserve reassurance that the person carrying out their treatments has the correct education and supervised practical training.

I also believe beauty treatments should remain within the hands of properly trained beauty professionals. While nurses are highly qualified within the medical field and aesthetics, many have not completed formal beauty therapy education focused on treatments such as facials, waxing, nails, lashes, massage, and skin therapy. Beauty therapists spend years developing specialist knowledge and practical skills within this sector under qualified lecturers, and that expertise should be recognised and protected.

Higher standards and stricter regulations are needed to protect clients, support qualified professionals, and maintain professionalism within the beauty industry.
