Our ageing population, particularly those residing in remote locations, face significant challenges when it comes to accessing vital healthcare services. This issue is not just personal; it's a nationwide concern that needs immediate attention.

According to the Central Statistics Office, as of 2016, over 37% of people aged 65 and over live in rural areas across Ireland (CSO, 2016). The lack of reliable and frequent public transport makes it difficult for these individuals to access necessary healthcare facilities. 

The National Transport Authority has a responsibility to ensure that all of the population have access to essential services regardless of where they live. By improving transport links in rural areas, we can help our older adults maintain their independence while ensuring they receive the care they need.

Let us urge the National Transport Authority and local government bodies and politicians to take immediate action on this issue. We must enhance transportation services in rural Ireland for better healthcare access now more than ever before.
