Enhance the ABM Curriculum with Practical Experience; Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset
The Issue
Introduction: As a student pursuing a strand in accounting, business, and management, during our business simulation I recognized the importance of gaining practical experience in our field. In my experience, it was very great to really experience the field in which we are going to work in the future. From that experience, I realized that it will be great for us students to experience not only establishing a business but also working on other aspects that are related to our strand, for instance, investing and accounting.
Problem: The current curriculum emphasizes more theoretical concepts and lacks real-world business applications. If this problem continues, it will leave the students unprepared for the real-world challenges and expectations of real businesses, companies, firms, and organizations. It was found out that the difficulties faced by ABM students are time management, problem-solving, and school work (Belando, 2020); this implies that students lack an entrepreneurial mindset to keep up with the demand of the chosen strand. Even high-achieving students are having struggles and difficulty adjusting when they go to higher-competency institutions like colleges due to a lack of preparedness (Magnaye, 2020).
Solution: We are writing this petition to request that the Department of Education change the curriculum to focus more on implementing practical and real-world experiences for students rather than theoretical concepts that will require more time for students to execute or apply these theories.
Benefits: By providing students with more experience and practicality in their chosen field, they will develop the necessary and significant skills needed to keep up with the demands of the business industry. This will also make us more prepared, skilled, and competitive in the market and produce quality individuals that are prepared to face the difficult challenges of the business world.
