Enhance safety on Currier Road
Enhance safety on Currier Road
The Issue
My family recently experienced a terrifying near-miss with a speeding vehicle while crossing Currier Road. It's a road that should be safe for leisurely walks, bike rides with the kids, and where pets can roam securely. Yet, it has become a corridor of anxiety and real danger due to ongoing speeding and cut-through traffic, putting not just my family, but all residents in jeopardy.
Currier Road is in need of urgent attention. It’s a quiet neighborhood street that has been increasingly used as a shortcut by non-resident drivers, often at high speeds that are entirely inappropriate for our residential area. This has resulted in a hazardous environment where children, pedestrians, and families are at constant risk of being involved in a tragic accident.
Statistics show that reducing cut-through traffic and controlling vehicle speed in residential areas can significantly decrease accidents and improve safety. According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, implementing traffic calming measures, like entrance closures for non-resident traffic and the installation of flashing radar speed signs, can both deter speeding and limit non-local traffic.
Therefore, we are urging our local council and transportation authorities to consider our critical proposal: close the entrance to non-resident traffic, install flashing radar speed signs, and increase law enforcement patrols on Currier Road. These measures will ensure that our neighborhood remains a safe haven for its residents.
We are not asking for something unprecedented, but something necessary and actionable that would make a meaningful difference. We must prioritize the safety and well-being of our children, pets, and all families residing on Currier Road.
Please join us in calling for these changes by signing this petition. Together, we can create the safe and peaceful environment that everyone on Currier Road deserves.
