Enhance Road Safety on Holly Lane, Erdington

Enhance Road Safety on Holly Lane, Erdington
The Issue
In May of 2023, Our daughter was mowed down by a vehicle traveling at a horrifying speed of between 64-67mph while crossing Holly Lane, Erdington. The impact left her with catastrophic injuries, forever altering the course of her young life. This is a nightmare no parent should ever endure, yet speeding remains rampant on Holly Lane to this day.
The current road safety measures are utterly ineffective. Speed cushions, intended to slow down vehicles, are nothing more than a minor inconvenience to reckless drivers hell-bent on defying speed limits. The safety of our children is at stake, particularly with multiple schools in close proximity, including St. Edmund Campion Catholic School.
What we desperately need is a swift upgrade in road safety measures. It starts with replacing the inadequate speed cushions with effective speed bumps that force vehicles to reduce their speed significantly. Speed bumps have been proven to effectively calm traffic, preventing accidents and saving lives.
Moreover, the installation of a zebra crossing where Orphanage Road meets Holly Lane is crucial. This added safety feature will provide kids and pedestrians a secure way to cross, minimizing the risk of tragic accidents. Such a crossing would act as a constant reminder for drivers to maintain ultimate caution.
Revisiting and rehabilitating road safety infrastructure is paramount. Statistics show that well-implemented traffic calming measures can reduce the incidence of speeding-related accidents by up to 40%. We ask for your support in making our roads safer for everyone, by demanding action from the local council to implement these life-saving changes.
Help prevent such life-altering tragedies and ensure the safety of our children and all pedestrians. Please sign this petition to advocate for these urgently needed safety improvements on Holly Lane, Erdington, Birmingham. Together, we can make a difference. Sign and support our cause.
