South Florida has seen an alarming number of accidents at railway crossings over the recent years, making it urgent to address the need for reinforced railway crossing safety. Fatalities at these railway crossings continue to rise with an average increase of about 13.5% annually from the period 2014 to 2019. We urge our local government for comprehensive action, which includes increased visibility of warning signals, installation of updated technological devices to detect approaching vehicles, an evaluation of high-risk areas, and the introduction of public awareness campaigns about railroad safety.
