Enhance Protection for Women and Children Against Domestic Violence

The issue

As a survivor of domestic violence, I understand the fear, confusion, and helplessness that many women and children experience. The trauma is unimaginable and the path to escape often seems impossible. This is why I am calling on lawmakers to strengthen laws protecting women and children from domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue affecting millions worldwide. Nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner - equating to more than 10 million individuals each year (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence). Too many lives have been lost at the hands of partners or former partners. We need stronger laws that prioritize victim safety over offender rights.

I propose three key changes:

1) An education program should be established to inform about what constitutes domestic violence, what help is available, and how victims can access this support.

2) Laws should be amended so that women can check if potential partners have prior convictions for domestic violence.

3) Mental health issues should not be used as an excuse or mitigating factor in cases of domestic abuse.

By implementing these changes we can create safer environments for those most vulnerable. It's time we put an end to this silent epidemic once and for all. Please sign this petition today - because every signature brings us one step closer to a world where no woman or child has to live in fear of their own home.
