Enhance Paraprofessional and Childcare Funding in Hartford Schools

Titilayo Thompson-McCroreyUnited States
Created August 26, 2025

The Issue

Living in Hartford, CT, I've witnessed firsthand the critical needs that our schools face daily. Classrooms are bursting with students, and teachers are stretched thin, calling out for the much-needed support of paraprofessionals. These dedicated individuals are crucial for managing classrooms efficiently, ensuring that teachers can focus on what they do best – teaching. Yet, there just aren’t enough paraprofessionals to meet the overwhelming demand, which directly impacts the quality of education our children receive.

In addition to classroom support, there’s a looming crisis for families deeply in need of dependable before and after school programs. Many parents in our community, myself included, rely on these programs to ensure their children are cared for while they work to make ends meet and provide a stable life for their families. These programs aren’t just convenient—they’re essential for supporting our families’ livelihoods.

Compounding these challenges is the stark reality of poverty in Hartford. Our community struggles with food insecurity and inadequate housing, making the support of paraprofessional and childcare programs even more critical.

We can make a tangible difference. By advocating for increased funding for paraprofessionals and comprehensive before and after school care, we can create a more supportive and nurturing educational environment. This will not only uplift our children academically but also provide peace of mind to parents and strengthen our community as a whole.

Let us come together to urge local and state officials to allocate necessary funds toward these vital educational supports. Sign this petition to call for the change our schools and families desperately need. With your signature, we can show that Hartford is united in its commitment to educational excellence and family support.
