The Issue

As someone who has worked with a local boarding facility for over two years, I have seen first-hand the devastating effects of lax animal cruelty laws in Idaho. Our facility, partnered with several local rescues, takes in new dogs to prevent them from unnecessary euthanasia. Over the past two years, we have staved off the fate of hundreds of rescues, despite the facility being stretched beyond its limits in terms of capacity.

Idaho is one of the last states where animal cruelty is still considered a misdemeanor and not a felony. This outdated approach hinders the possibility of offering more substantial protection to animals and fails to deter potential abusers. The situation is even more urgent in our community, where the need for spaying and neutering has significantly increased.

We need stricter laws for animal abuse and welfare, moving beyond this old-fashioned stance. Our state's laws must be changed to better protect our animal friends and save lives. Classifying animal abuse as a felony would signal the seriousness of these crimes, deter potential abusers, and ultimately contribute to the reduction in the number of abused and neglected animals.

Let's act together for those who cannot speak or cannot resist. Please sign this petition to bring about the much-needed change in our state's animal cruelty laws and help ensure a better future for our animals.
