Animals deserve the same respect and safety as humans. This belief is at the core of why I urge PetSmart to enhance its standards for animal care. Over the years, I've seen many heart-wrenching stories and reports about the conditions of animals in pet stores. It pains me every time I think of them not receiving the love or care they deserve.

In 2020, PETA investigated several PetSmart locations, revealing serious concerns over the treatment of animals. This included poorly trained staff handling animals, inadequate living conditions, and lack of veterinary care — all documented with evidence. According to the Humane Society, pet stores are frequently found to have below-par conditions, affecting the welfare of animals they house.

PetSmart, being a leading pet retailer, has the power and responsibility to set a higher standard for the entire industry by ensuring every animal in their care is treated humanely. They can achieve this by implementing regular staff training, improving living conditions, and guaranteeing immediate healthcare for every animal.

Improving the quality of life for animals in PetSmart isn't just the ethical thing to do, it's also good business practice. Enhanced standards will not only ensure happier, healthier animals but also reassure customers about the company's commitment to animal welfare.

One of the biggest changes that needs to happen, is for Petsmart to get their animals from other sources. The sources they are currently getting their animals from (ex. Fish Mart Inc., Reptiles by Mack, ect.)  have not proven to put animal welfare as a top priority, instead putting profit first. And that needs to be put to an end immediately.
