Enhance accessibility for people with disabilities!

The Issue

Hello, everybody. My name is Faith Norris, and I am 14 years old. And even though I'm young, I am here to make a positive impact on the world.

Every individual, regardless of their physical or mental disabilities, deserves to live in a world that is accessible and inclusive. Very unfortunately, there are numerous barriers that people with disabilities face daily, hindering their ability to live independently and take part in society fully. My petition seeks to address and remove these obstacles, creating an inclusive and equal environment for all.

Currently, people with both physical and mental disabilities encounter significant difficulties in accessing public spaces, services, and opportunities. This not only impacts their quality of life but also their right to equal participation. For instance, many public buildings and transportation systems lack the necessary facilities or support for those with disabilities, while digital platforms often fail to incorporate accessible technologies.

Globally, it is estimated that more than one billion people have some form of disability, representing 15% of the world's population, according to the World Health Organization. This is a significant portion of society that deserves our attention and our action.

To address these issues, I propose the following solutions:
1. Implementation of Universal Design Principles: Ensuring that all future public infrastructure projects are planned with accessibility in mind.

2. Enhanced Legislation and Policies: Governments should enact stricter laws ensuring accessibility in all public and private sectors, backed by robust enforcement mechanisms.

3. Increased Funding for Assistive Technologies: Encourage innovation and development in technologies that assist those with disabilities in achieving greater independence.

4. Public Awareness Campaigns: Educate the public about disabilities to foster a more inclusive society where everyone understands the importance of accessibility.

By increasing accessibility, we ensure that people with mental or physical disabilities have the freedom to participate fully in all aspects of life. This is not only a moral imperative but also an economic one, as inclusive societies boost productivity and creativity by harnessing the talents of all their members.

This is important to me because every single day of my life, I got bullied. Bullied for having hearing aids; bullied for having a cecostomy port; bullied for wearing glasses. Bullied for just being different. But today, I'm putting a stop to this. To bullying. To exclusion. Today, we will fight. Today, we are one. Today, we are going to rise up

I urge policymakers, businesses, and community leaders to recognize and act upon the importance of accessibility in our society. Your support CAN make a difference. Let us build a world where no one is left behind due to inaccessibility.

Sign this petition to show your support for enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities. Together, we can make a change!
