I'm writing this to propose an idea to help with the crisis that is plaguing and poisoning the minds of millions of people and children around the world.

The crisis I'm speaking of is that of social media and big tech mobile platforms. The big tech companies say that they can't do anything more than what they currently have in place. I however, see that there may be an option that is a completely logical, and reasonable way to help with what is happening currently primarily with our youth.

I would like to bring to light some of the platforms such as, tik tok, YouTube, snapchat, instagram, and Facebook. That have scientific and medical data to support the harmful effects that they have on the mental well being and development of our youth.

I propose that age restrictions that are enforced by verification of age by a government issued form of Identification.
In the same sense that things like nicotine, alcohol, and tobacco, have been proven to be harmful to children, I believe that there is enough data and evidence to support having a government issued form of identification to obtain an account on these platforms should be in place.

Currently several online services require identity verification that is quick, easy, and user friendly.With the amount of money generated and the wide scope of possibilities within these big tech companies, implementing a way in which the user can easily provide proof of age should be something easily achievable.

Due to the content and the data collected, I propose that the age of 18 years old would be a fair compromise. Also along with this should be an enforcement of only allowing one account per platform, with the verification of age. This would be to ensure that simply generating a new email, or a new username would not enable another account to be made.

I encourage everyone to research and study the data and statistics that will clearly prove the harmful effects and influences of these social media platforms are currently having on the youth of not just your state, your country, but of the world.

This petition is a starting point and the foundation of beginning to put the responsibility of the harmful effects into the hands of the social media platform companies. If you are a parent, family member, friend or loved one who has first hand experienced and witnessed the negative and harmful toll that this has taken on our youth. Please help raise the voice of millions to be heard and bring this petition to the individuals that can enforce these changes.
