Enforce Zoning Codes on Marine Construction Contractors in Residential Canals

Enforce Zoning Codes on Marine Construction Contractors in Residential Canals
The Issue
I am a resident living on a canal where a local marine construction company owner also resides. For the past three years, we have seen our tranquil neighborhood disrupted by the constant parking of marine construction barges behind their property - a clear violation of local codes.
These commercial barges, often equipped with heavy or crane-like machinery, are larger than the average private-use boat. They not only disrupt the picturesque views that our community holds dear but also pose a significant risk to local navigation due to their cumbersome size. Normally, these barges would not fit in a standard dock space, and now they protrude into the navigational area of our peaceful canal.
What's even more alarming is that one of the marine construction barges is unpowered and must be towed. They are unstable, often loaded with heavy excavating equipment on board and do not tow well by the vessel used. I have witnessed the struggles trying to avoid structures on the canal while transporting this equipment. This persistent transgression of rules not only mars our scenic view but also undermines the zoning codes placed to ensure the safety, peace, and serenity of residential areas.
We believe in the integrity of our local codes and the vision that they uphold - a vision that prioritizes residential tranquillity over commercial liberties. It's time we remind our marine construction neighbors of the same.
Our property values, our sense of community, and our right to a peaceful environment are all at stake. It is time to stand up against the careless enforcement of zoning codes and take action.
Let us petition our local authorities to enforce our local zoning codes on marine construction contractors. It's time to restore the tranquility of our canals, and let our homes be homes, not backstairs to commercial business operations. Please sign this petition and help us reclaim our quiet and scenic residential canals. Thank you.
