The Issue

As a bus driver suffering from Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness, I experience the severe effects of vaping and cigarette smoke first-hand. Every day, while driving bus number 270 from Mitcham to Putney Bridge, I experience passengers vaping on my bus. The smoke causes me immense discomfort, bringing on a burning sensation in my chest, which not only affects my health but also distracts me.

Wearing a respirator face mask is my only shield against this assault, but it should not be this way. If vaping was truly harmless, it wouldn't cause such pain and distress. It’s not just me—vapers casually use their devices in supermarkets, churches, on public transport, and just about everywhere, with little regard for public health. This lack of consideration severely affects individuals like me with pre-existing health conditions.

Public health should be a priority, and people using public transportation should not have to suffer due to the personal choices of others. The toxic effects of vaping are well-documented. According to several studies, vaping includes harmful chemicals that can worsen respiratory conditions and pose serious health risks to non-users inhaling second-hand vape aerosols.

We are calling for immediate legislative action to enforce the ban  of vaping and smoking in all public transportation to ensure the safety and health of every passenger and worker. It is vital to enforce environments free of these pollutants to protect my health and the health of the community.

Please sign this petition to demand that banned vaping on public transport, should be enforced, taking a stand for the health of bus drivers, passengers, and all public transport workers across our cities.
