Enforce tougher coyote control laws in Arvada, CO

Enforce tougher coyote control laws in Arvada, CO
The Issue
In recent times, our beloved community of Arvada, CO has been under the shadow of a growing threat. Coyotes and wolves, while natural parts of our ecosystems, have increasingly made their presence felt within our neighborhoods, leading to a worrying uptick in attacks on pets. As a resident, I can no longer stand by and watch as this danger looms. These attacks on our pets serve as a stark reminder that, if left unchecked, our children could be the next victims. It is alarming to read articles and hear news reports of coyote attacks on both children and adults across our state. Enough is enough; even one attack or fatality is one too many.
To safeguard our community, I urge the implementation of stronger laws against feeding coyotes, whether directly or indirectly through attractants like bird feeders or pet food left outside. Additionally, I propose making it illegal to leave out dog food and bird feed on private properties, as these serve as unintended invitations for these predators. We need exemptions in local regulations to allow for the use of paintball guns as a non-lethal means to deter coyotes and encourage them to avoid human activity in our neighborhoods. This approach would help in managing the coyote population effectively without resorting to lethal methods.
Studies show that human food sources significantly contribute to altering the natural hunting patterns of coyotes, drawing them closer to urban and suburban settings. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, reported coyote incidents have doubled in urban areas over the past decade. This trend is unsustainable and requires immediate action.
Join me in calling on our local government to take decisive action to protect our families and pets. Together, we can ensure the safety and harmony of our community by enforcing tougher coyote control measures. Your support and signature on this petition could make a pivotal difference in achieving these necessary changes. Please sign and help secure a safer environment for all in Arvada.
