Enforce the mandatory wearing of Body Cams and Unannounced Visits by Social Workers

The Issue

Following the tragic event of Arthur Labinjo Hughes losing his life and with the suffering and abuse of many other children after being being failed and let down by social services and other agencies who should have protected him. Arthur went through traumatic and prolonged suffering and abuse...his cries for help fell on deaf ears, his case was assessed and closed by a single Social Workers opinion which led to a lack of intervention by other services who could have and should have helped Arthur. Arthur was 6 years old, he was trapped and had no way of communicating his need for help other than to those who should have given him the love and nurture every child should have...he only had his voice and that went unheard or ignored.

Tragically Arthur is one of many children who have been let down and who have lost their lives for this reason, and this needs to change to prevent this happening again and to prevent the suffering of children in abusive situations.

We need bring the changes to have cases reviewed and assessed not from just home visits done by a single social worker, but also by the mandatory wearing of body cams to help and support not only their decisions but to review the home visit and highlight any red flags that may not have been so obvious at the time of the visit. Allowing further assessment of the child's body language and behaviour and of those around them.

We believe that with the help of body cams more reviews can be done and evidence can be reviewed and assessed by a second and third party and enable them to spot any unseen dangers to the child and also review the appearance of the child as some things may go undetected at the time of the home visit.

A home visit from social services is the most crucial time to save a child in danger. Most visits are announced so many things can be covered up and in the visit small details can be missed or overlooked, with the help of body cams the visit can be looked at again from a different perspective to spot things not seen by a social worker on a visit.

When vital signs and red flags are missed and the situation culminates in a tragic event, the focus Is on the one social worker who made the  initial visit and assessment, that person  is held responsible and accountable, shouldering the blame for the tragic outcome, with body cams the footage can be reviewed by a group of people, and maybe one individual in that group will spot a vital and telling detail that was missed and in that save a child's life.

So with your help please support Arthur’s Angels to make it mandatory for all social workers to wear body cams and together we can try and bring change and help to save a child's life.

It takes time to gather signatures and petition the government to make changes that should already be in place to protect our vulnerable children but unfortunately this is not the case.  Many of these children do not have the luxury of time, they need help here and now, so please with your help we can do this ..sign and share, share, share. Little Arthur lost his life in the most horrendous circumstances, it must not happen again and let it be Arthurs legacy be to help and protect other children.

Arthur left this world thinking he was unloved, he was let down by social services, police and other agencies who should have protected him.

Visits by social workers should not be pre-arranged, as we have seen in so many cases pre-arranged visits from social services home life can be staged, children are threatened or manipulated and the reality is that abusers are clever and deceptive. Suspected abusers should not be given the benefit of time to plan or coerce the victims, unannounced visits would help to eliminate the possibility of coercion and manipulation, social workers would see the home as it actually is and be able to make a fair assessment on the well-being of the child/children and of their true living conditions helping them to identify any risks and dangers within the home.

A report about a child’s welfare, should be taken seriously and acted on immediately no matter how how big or small the incident may be or how many times a report has been made and whether one agency has closed a case or not each agency reported to should make an independent assessment of the child and situation by attending and making a welfare check on the child.

Social services and police should be allowed by law to enter the school or home without warning. If there is suspicion, they should act immediately and police should use their power to remove a child from suspected abuse or abusive situations. Too many children are being left to suffer , just imagine the ray of hope the child and relief that child would feel that help has arrived...now imagine their sense of despair as they are left behind to face more cruelty and abuse and possibly their death.

We should all stand together, the government sweep these beautiful innocent victims of abuse under the carpet and there they stay...not seen and their voices unheard and nothing changes. Together we can help protect more children who are suffering from physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse and we need to start now before yet another beautiful child loses their life to cruelty and violence.

In loving memory of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes let's make the changes happen, let his memory make a difference, don't let Arthurs suffering be all for nothing, let something good and positive come out of Arthurs tragedy and let this beautiful little boys death and legacy be to help and save other children who are suffering abuse everyday.

WE need to ACT NOW...please sign and share, share , share...HELP TO MAKE THE CHANGES HAPPEN !
