Enforce Strict Distance Regulations for Registered Sex Offenders from Child-Centric Facilities

The Issue

Given the shocking experiences in our own neighborhood, where 10-15 registered sex offenders reside, one right across the school, it is unabashedly clear that the safety of our children is significantly compromised. Our kids are compelled to walk home from school, as the schools will not bus them if they live within a mile of the school. In such circumstances, every step they take carries the risk of becoming prey to sexual predators. This scenario reflects an unacceptable risk for our children, who should be able to play, learn, and develop in a secure environment without fear of falling victim to sexual predators.

Sexual crimes involving minors are, regretfully, not uncommon. In the United States, as per statistics from the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, a child is sexually abused every nine minutes. Preventative measures are urgently needed, and one significant step towards this goal is to adopt stricter regulations on where registered sex offenders can reside.

Our proposal is simple, yet effective: to require any sexual predator or registered sex offender, irrespective of the tier of offense, to not be allowed to live within 5,000 ft of child-centric facilities such as schools, daycares, parks, and children's museums.

By implementing these stringent restrictions, we can reduce the potential risks posed to our children, and provide them the fundamental right to safety they deserve. It is our responsibility to challenge the status quo and contribute to safer communities for our children. Sign this petition in favor of enforcing strict distance regulations for registered sex offenders from child-centric facilities. Let us work together to keep our children safe.
