We, the undersigned, call on Gateshead Council to urgently enforce the planning conditions at 10 Derwent Street(The FoodFather Restaurant, Chopwell (Ref: DC/24/00250/COU).

Planning permission for this address was granted strictly for Class E(b) use — meaning the sale of food and drink mostly for consumption on the premises. However, the operator continues to run a takeaway and delivery-only business, in clear breach of the planning permission granted.

Despite multiple complaints and escalation through our local MP Liz Twist, Gateshead Council’s Planning Enforcement team has failed to take action for over a month.

This breach is causing serious financial harm to law-abiding local businesses, undermines trust in the fair application of planning law, and damages the integrity of our local community.

We demand that Gateshead Council:

• Immediately enforce the planning conditions at 10 Derwent Street;
• Treat all businesses equally and fairly;
• Protect local businesses that comply with the law.
