My son, an autistic child, fell prey to horrific acts of abuse in his special education setting. As a result of the trauma, he has been out of school for a long year, grappling with the psychological scars left behind. This is not an isolated case, as many other children with disabilities are exposed to similar risks worldwide.

Statistics reveal that children with disabilities are about three times more likely to become victims of abuse than their peers without disabilities (Hammond, Linton, Smeltzer, & Drew, 2017). This intolerable reality calls for immediate protective measures.
