I am a resident of Monmouth, OR, and like many others, I am struggling due to the lack of enforcement of federal laws regarding child support. My ex-husband is over $26,000 behind in child support payments. When I sought help from authorities, they simply promised to send him a letter - an action that hardly seems sufficient given the circumstances.

Federal law stipulates that any parent who falls more than $10,000 behind in child support should face jail time and fines. Yet here in Oregon, this law is not being enforced effectively. This isn't just about me or my children; it's about our entire community. Children are going without necessities like good shoes and clothes because one parent isn't being held accountable for their responsibilities.

It's baffling how we teach our kids consequences for actions such as stealing or lying but fail to hold adults accountable for neglecting their parental duties. We need to stand up and demand change so that all parents are held responsible for supporting their children financially.
