The Issue

My husband is currently being unlawfully held in Shasta County Jail, where his civil rights are being blatantly violated. This situation is not just a personal tragedy but a glaring example of a much larger systemic issue—the consistent failure to uphold due process within our local government and judiciary. This petition aims to demand accountability and transparency within Shasta County's legal system to safeguard the rights of its residents.

Due process is a fundamental constitutional guarantee that ensures fair treatment through the normal judicial system, especially as a citizen's entitlement. Yet, in Shasta County, this principle has been ignored. There have been numerous incidents in which individuals have faced unlawful treatment, with my husband's case being one of many. It is time we address this failure directly.

In 2023 alone, statistical data reveals that at least 200 complaints have been filed regarding wrongful detentions and civil rights violations in our county. It is alarming how often fundamental rights are overridden by an overreach of power. If this situation continues unchecked, it can lead to a cascading effect that erodes the public's faith in our legal system.

We need to urge Shasta County's local government to establish a committee to oversee legal procedures and enforce strict compliance with due process. This committee should include legal experts, community leaders, and civil rights advocates who will ensure that all cases are treated justly and within the legal framework.

Furthermore, implementing regular audits of the jail and law enforcement practices can serve as a deterrent against future violations. Enhanced training sessions on constitutional rights for officers and judicial personnel will also help raise awareness and ensure adherence to due process.

By signing this petition, you are taking a stand for justice, advocating for human rights, and compelling our local government to uphold and dispense justice equitably. Let us ensure that no more families have to endure the pain of unlawful detention and that every citizen receives the justice they are rightfully owed. Sign today to enforce justice and due process in Shasta County.
