I am a local resident deeply affected by the dramatic changes in the ski industry. Big corporations are buying up all our local ski areas, altering the landscape of this beloved sport and pastime. Out of 150 ski areas that once operated in Colorado, only about 30 remain due to corporate greed.

The purchase of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area by Alterra Mountain Company is just another example of this worrying trend. Pass sales have skyrocketed, food prices have become exorbitant, and lift lines increasingly frustrating. The joy of skiing is being overshadowed by the hassle - from struggling to find parking or having to pay upwards of $40 just for a spot.

This isn't just about skiing anymore; it's about preserving our community culture and preventing monopolistic practices from ruining what we hold dear.

We urge the senators and Colorado governor Jared Polis to implement the Anti-Trust Act on Alterra Mountain Company's acquisition of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. This will ensure fair competition in our local economy and protect consumers like us from price gouging and other unfair practices.
