The Issue

Our Project Citizen project is more than just an initiative; it's a cause close to my heart. Over-development is not merely a buzzword but a reality that threatens the flavor, sustainability, and essence of our communities. Each new construction project seems to edge us closer to losing the characteristics that make our neighborhoods unique and cherished.

Over-development, sometimes called "urban sprawl," has become an issue of critical concern, eroding our ecosystems, causing congestion, and disrupting the natural balance of our surroundings. According to the National Wildlife Federation, urban sprawl results in the destruction of wildlife habitats and increased pollution levels, contributing to environmental degradation. It's estimated that wildlife species survival rates have dropped by up to 40% in heavily urbanized areas.

Our proposed solution is for the state of Delaware to Enforce an Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) is a significant step toward a sustainable future. UGBs help manage urban sprawl by delineating where development can and cannot occur. They guide expansion and encourage more thoughtful infrastructure development. These boundaries have been implemented successfully in areas like Portland, Oregon, where the urban growth boundary has preserved farmlands and open spaces while allowing room for urban development. This model demonstrates that it's possible to balance growth with the preservation of natural beauty and community integrity.

By supporting this petition, you are advocating for a thoughtful approach to urban planning that values environmental sustainability, community culture, and economic viability.

Please join us in this crucial endeavor to stop over-development and enforce an Urban Growth Boundary to protect Delaware's future. Sign this petition to make a difference today.
