Campaign to get Enfield Council to publish ONLINE register details of lost/stray/found/reunited dogs (rather than just copy available in person from Civic Centre)
The Issue
THE PROBLEM?
Did you know that it is a statutory duty for all councils (including Enfield Council) to deal with all lost/stray/found/reunited dogs and to take them to kennels until they are either claimed or rehomed.
Currently, Enfield Council only record lost/stray dogs manually and only allow residents to see the list in person at the Civic Centre during office hours. I hope you agree that this situation seems ridiculous especially since residents are able to report details of a found dog online to the Council. Why can this therefore not work the other way round?
THE SOLUTION?
The solution already exists - other councils already post details of lost/found/stray/reunited dogs online in some shpae or form: Some examples are:
Waltham Forest - details posted via Council Twitter feed following campaign by Waltham Forest 4 Dogs - http://www.walthamforest4dogs.co.uk/campaigns/
Westminster Council - details posted via contractor's website: http://www.lostdogsuk.co.uk/
Lichfield Council - details posted directly on own council website: https://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/Residents/Environment/Environmental-health/Dog-owners-and-warden-service/View-our-lost-and-found-dogs-register.aspx
Ultimately, whichever method is chosen (and there are pros and cons of each approach), publishing the details online is surely more customer friendly than requiring residents to make a special effort to go to Enfield Civic Centre during working hours only. What happens therefore if your dog is lost at the weekends or if you cannot make it to the civic centre during office hours?
The benefits of publishing the details online is that Enfield Council will be seen to be more customer friendly, more responsive and hopefully the ultimate benefit is that lost dogs will be reunited quicker for benefit of all.
