End workplace discrimination in Michigan for individuals with disabilities

The Issue

For the past two years, I have experienced relentless harassment at my workplace due to my multiple disabilities. My doctors have been harassed as well, making an already difficult situation unbearable. I work for the university, and like many others, I am tired of the discrimination and lack of understanding that people with mental and chronic illnesses face in the workplace.

Many individuals in Michigan are silently battling mental illnesses and chronic conditions, yet they live in fear of their disabilities being discovered and used against them. This toxic environment forces employees to quit, surrendering their right to a fair and inclusive workplace, rather than advocating for themselves because they feel isolated and unsupported. I refuse to let this continue, both for myself and for all those who are suffering silently.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates that employers provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination in employment practices. Despite these legal protections, many organizations in Michigan fall short in implementing these standards.

We call upon Michigan lawmakers and employers to:
1. Enforce existing ADA laws and ensure compliance within all workplaces.
2. Advocate for workplace training programs that educate employees about mental and chronic illnesses.
3. Establish a reliable reporting system for employees to safely report discrimination without fear of retaliation.
4. Implement regular audits to ensure that workplaces are adhering to ADA standards and fostering an inclusive environment.

By supporting these changes, we can create a more inclusive, supportive, and fair work environment that respects and acknowledges the rights of individuals with disabilities. Please sign this petition to stand against workplace discrimination and to support a future where all employees in Michigan can work without fear of prejudice and hostility due to their disabilities. Let us fight for change and equality for all.
