The Issue

My brother, Morris Gibson Jr., has been incarcerated for over two years without a conviction. Despite repeatedly appearing in court, his case continues to be delayed due to insufficient evidence. This ongoing ordeal not only violates his basic rights but also impacts our family tremendously. It’s time we speak out to seek justice and secure his freedom.

Being imprisoned without trial is not just unfair, it is inhumane. According to the Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution, an accused individual has the right to a trial without undue delay. However, Morris has been deprived of this fundamental right as his case remains stalled due to lack of evidence.

Statistics show that over 450,000 people are held in the United States justice system without conviction at any given time. This unjust practice disproportionately affects individuals who cannot afford expensive legal defense, often leading to prolonged jail time without any resolution in sight.

Beyond the systemic issue, Morris’s continued detention is deeply personal and painful for us. Every day spent behind bars without a fair trial is a day of unjust punishment for an innocent man. His absence has left a void in our family, affecting our morale and finances as we strive to pay for legal assistance.

We call upon the court and the justice system to review his case, provide a fair trial where evidence can be presented, and subsequently release him if no substantial evidence can be found.

By signing this petition, you are supporting Morris's right to due process and helping fight against the misuse of pre-trial detention. Your signatures are powerful enough to attract the necessary attention to ensure justice is served. Please sign and share this petition to bring Morris back home where he belongs. Let us end unjust detention and demand accountability from our legal system.
