End Unchecked Euthanization of Healthy Dogs (Phoebe's law)

The Issue

I recently experienced a heartbreaking situation that opened my eyes to a troubling issue. My beloved dog, a mix of Staff and Husky, was put to sleep because she was a bit snappy and entered into a fight with a puppy. My concern was the safety of my children and grandchildren. However, the easiness with which this process unfolded is deeply unsettling. It involved no alternatives, no thorough checks - simply a payment of £400 and an appointment. And as such, my healthy dog's life was taken. This experience devastated me, making me feel as if I had sent my own dear pet down a path of no return.

This process reflects a troubling law that allows for the unchecked and unregulated euthanization of healthy dogs, without exploring alternative routes or ensuring full accountability. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), while the majority of euthanizations involve dogs with terminal illnesses or severe behavioral problems, there are instances where healthy dogs are put down. We need stricter regulations to ensure that euthanizing is truly the last resort, employed only after all other options have been exhausted.

I urge you all to sign this petition, for my dog, for your dog, for all dogs who, like mine, could pay the ultimate price without the chance of exploring other possibilities. Ending the unchecked euthanization of healthy dogs is needed now more than ever to protect our beloved pets. Please sign this petition to change this law. Together, we can make a difference.
