End U.S. Military Presence in Australia's Pine Gap

End U.S. Military Presence in Australia's Pine Gap
The issue
I am an Australian deeply concerned about our nation's autonomy. We feel restricted by the presence of the U.S. military on our soil, specifically in Pine Gap and other military bases. Pine Gap, one of Australia's most iconic locations, has been a base for U.S. military operations since the Cold War. This presence is a continual reminder of how, far too often, our country has been subject to the decisions dictated by a foreign President.
The U.S. presence in Pine Gap not only fuels a military-industrial complex, but it also undermines Australia's ability to define its foreign policy, compromising our national sovereignty. According to a report by the Nautilus Institute, Pine Gap plays a substantial role in the global U.S. intelligence system, but "it is an Australian base in name only" since our government largely lacks operational knowledge and control of what happens within its perimeters.
It's high time to redefine our terms with the United States, and regain control of our land, our decisions, and our future. By ridding Pine Gap and other bases of U.S military presence, we can help ensure that Australia's choices reflect the best interests of Australians, and not those of another nation.
Please join me in this plea to our government: restore Australia's autonomy. Sign this petition to call for an end to the U.S. military presence in Pine Gap and other Australian bases.
