Campaign against Drugs and Alcohol in the country
The Issue
Article 47 in The Constitution Of India states that
“ Duty of the State to raise the level of nutrition and the standard of living and to improve public health The State shall regard the raising of the level of nutrition and the standard of living of its people and the improvement of public health as among its primary duties and, in particular, the State shall endeavor to bring about prohibition of the consumption except for medicinal purposes of intoxicating drinks and of drugs which are injurious to health ”.
In the present context of the increasing consumption of drugs and alcohol among the youth and productive groups leading to physical in-capacities and deaths, reduction of family incomes and growing violence on women and children, and The Government of India under the social justice and empowerment has projected that there will be 10lakh death by the year 2025 due to alcohol and drug consumption.(http://socialjustice.nic.in/writereaddata/UploadFile/Magnitude_Substance_Use_India_REPORT.pdf)
We urge the Government of India and State Governments to Implement the following measures on a war footing to implement Prohibition to save India and her younger generation, workers, women and children.
·Implementing the value education as part of curriculum on ill effects of Alcohol,Tobacco,Drugs from Standard I onwards to highest level of education apart from values of social equality including gender equality and non violence.
Promoting use of Drugs and Liquor consumption in Media should be banned and resulting in violence on women and children should be banned.
Creation of Narcotics wing in the State Police with branches in all taluks/district/state with special training module for the effective implementation this will make the government to stop the illegal sales of drugs.
Closure of All Liquor Shops selling in the country including illicit Liquor sales and those covered by court orders.
Posters of ill effects of Liquor, Tobacco and Drugs to be posted or displayed in all public places including government hospitals, private hospitals, panchayat offices, etc., in order to reduce the death rate and as a preventive measure.
In Kerala, The State Government has implemented the Mobile vans displaying the ill effects of drugs and alcohol throughout the state. This could be implemented throughout the nation to spread the information and also we can prevent the younger generation in the future.. So, this can be prevented or reduced by our measure.
There should be encouragement for the State Government who are implementing Prohibition and protection of the constitutional Directive Principles of State Policy, women and children must be given the encouragement revenue and not only as compensation for the loss but also to encourage the positive step of the State Government to protect the people.
