End the Use of Antibiotics in Factory Farmed Chickens

The Issue

Factory Farms also known as concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO's) is the modernized way in which large scale farms are producing many of our everyday foods like eggs, milk, chicken, beef, and pork. Even though factory farming increases the rate of food production and lowers costs there is a huge risk it brings to the health of its consumers that we can't ignore.

 

Factory farming is where large amounts of animals are contained indoors with little to no space for movement. These animals are striped of the ability to breathe in fresh outdoor air and feel grass beneath their feet. Instead they are often kept in filthy, cramped, cages or pens with no windows and dull light. These conditions create the perfect recipe for the fast spread of awful diseases being passed from animal to animal. 

 

To prevent this from happening a large majority of companies are giving antibiotics to their healthy animals to prevent illness and treat diseases. This might sound beneficial, but these drugs are seen to cause health issues for consumers if any antibiotic residues are left in food products. It can cause negative affects to your liver, kidneys, reproductive system, and immune system (Brown, 2023). 

 

I want to focus this petition on the use of antibiotics in factory farmed chickens. Chicken products are commonly used in many households across America for their eggs and meat. The companies that use antibiotics are Tyson Foods, Pilgrim's Pride, Wayne-Sanderson Farms, and Mountaire. Stopping companies from giving chickens antibotics could lead them to providing better living conditions for their animals and help reduce the chance of people suffering from serious health effects. We can do this one animal at a time starting with chickens. If you sign this petition your are in support of companies like Tyson Foods not giving their chickens antibiotics.
