End the Two-Child Benefit Cap – Support All Families Fairly

The Issue

Hi everyone!

I’ve started a petition to ask the government to end the two-child benefit cap. This policy is making life really tough for families with three or more children, forcing parents into impossible choices.

If you believe every child deserves a fair chance, please sign the petition and share your own story if you can. Every voice counts, and together we can push for a fairer system that supports all families. The two-child benefit cap hurts families with three or more children by cutting essential support. This policy forces many parents into impossible choices, making it harder to provide basics like food, clothing, and school supplies. We believe every child deserves a fair chance, no matter how many siblings they have.

Why This Matters:

The cap increases child poverty.

It puts extra stress on parents already working hard.

It ignores the real costs of raising children.

Many families who have lived here for years feel overlooked. While new arrivals sometimes receive the support they need to settle, long-standing families are left struggling, taxed heavily by the system and denied fair help for their children. This creates feelings of unfairness and division in our communities.

What We’re Asking:

We call on the government to remove the two-child benefit cap and provide support that reflects the true needs of families.

One story , “My family has three children, and since the benefit cap started, I’ve had to choose between paying for heating or buying schoolbooks. It feels like the government is punishing us for having a bigger family, and it’s breaking my heart to see my kids miss out.”

Let's get this shared far and wide and get this changed id like to hear your thoughts

Here’s a revised version of the petition with a dedicated section highlighting how the benefit cap affects parents — particularly women and children — who are stuck in abusive relationships because they cannot afford to leave:

📝 Petition: Stop the Benefit Cap – Protect Low-Income Families and Survivors of Abuse

To: The UK Government and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to urgently scrap the benefit cap, which unfairly limits the amount of financial support that households can receive — pushing families deeper into poverty, and in some cases, into dangerous and abusive situations.

The benefit cap:

Hits the most vulnerable the hardest, especially single parents, families with children, and people with disabilities or caring responsibilities.

Forces survivors of domestic abuse to stay with their abusers, because they cannot afford to rent a home and support their children alone.

Ignores local housing costs, making it almost impossible to find affordable accommodation in many parts of the UK.

Has not increased in line with inflation, even as food, rent, and bills continue to rise.

Too many parents — especially mothers — are trapped in relationships with abusive partners because the benefit cap makes it financially impossible for them to leave. Women fleeing domestic violence are often left without the means to rent their own place or provide basic necessities for their children. The cap punishes them for trying to protect themselves and their families.

This policy puts lives at risk. No one should be forced to choose between staying with an abuser or facing homelessness and poverty.

We urge the government to:

1. Abolish the benefit cap immediately, or at the very least,

2. Exempt survivors of domestic abuse and their children, and

3. Raise the cap to reflect actual living costs and regional rent levels

The welfare system should offer protection and dignity — not cruelty and impossible choices. Stop punishing families. Stop endangering lives. End the benefit cap.
