End the Pro-Russian "Freeze" on World Skate Scores & Rankings

The Issue

In 2020, in response to the global COVID Pandemic, the World Skate Organisation agreed - through its Technical Committee - to temporarily "Freeze" all Scores and Rankings for World Skate Competitors (Freestyle Slalom Skaters).

While this decision was in direct contravention of Section 3 of the World Ranking Regulations (main section heading "Ranking Rules"), the exceptional circumstances were deemed to merit the temporary "freezing" as no competitors anywhere in the world were able to stage (or participate in) any formally-ranked Freestyle Slalom Competition.
This action was seen universally as "fair" as no competitor would suffer any disadvantage from such action.

It is now 2022 (September 2022), and while the world has long-since resumed World Skate Ranked Competitions, and skaters from all over the world are indeed competing in these events; the World Skate Organisation has continued to impose a "selective freeze" on its Scores and Rankings, under the false-pretence that it is any way related to the long-since ended global COVID pandemic.

Indeed, the present World Skate Scores and Rankings are overtly and directly in contradiction to Section 3.2.1 of the World Ranking Regulations.

Specifically, this rule states:

Points awarded to a skater will expire 12 months after being awarded or when the same event is held the next year; in such case the new points awarded will replace the previous points awarded for the same event.

This rule makes two absolute assertions:

  1. Points accrued expire after 12 months
  2. Points accrued for a specific event may expire earlier than 12 months where said points relate to a specific annual competition that has been held slightly earlier than the 12 month expiration period.

Put simply, in 2022, there should not be any points associated with any Ranked Competitor from the year 2019.

However, in direct violation of their own rules and regulations, World Skate continue to retain selective scores from 2019, to the sole advantage of the highest-ranking competitors... whom are not competing this year.

Indeed, the continued practice of violating rule 3.2.2 by selectively "freezing" scores from long-expired competitions overtly serve to advantage specific Russian and Belarusian competitors (whom are not competing this year due to their governments' respective unlawful and inhumane invasion of Ukraine) while universally disadvantaging all Skaters actively competing in 2022.

In Freestyle Slalom competitions, the best possible score each Competitor can physically attain at each Competition is directly relative to the specific Start List upon which said competitor is placed.

These Start Lists are themselves directly influenced by the Score and Ranking of each Competitor, relative to the sum of all competitors.

By retaining selective Scores and Rankings for specific (Russian & Belarusian) Competitors, the maximum attainable Start List for each current Competitor is that of a significantly lower Starting Position than it otherwise should be.

In turn, this means that all Competitors actively competing in 2022 are being directly and substantially penalised by World Skate, to the sole advantage of Russian & Belarusian skaters whom are not even competing in 2022.

This disgraceful behaviour by World Skate and its Technical Committee has already resulted in a significant number of enthusiastic competitors resigning from the sport in 2022, after noticing that no amount of effort or achievement in the 2022 competition season can amount to any justified and/or earned attainment of Score or Rank on the World Skate boards.

There is not, nor can there be, any defensible purpose for continuing to selectively "freeze" scores and rankings from the long-defunct 2019 competition season.

Indeed, the only apparent possible reason would be due to certain "special interests" within World Skate as an organisation, whom themselves directly profit from the use of specific names belonging to certain Russian and Belarusian competitors (whom are no longer competing in the sport).

We call upon World Skate to honour and satisfy its own Regulations, and once again return a degree of parity, fairness, dignity, and respect to the sport of Freestyle Slalom Skating... and all of its active competitors.

We call upon World Skate to immediately and without delay end this "selective freeze" of Scores and Ranks, to remove all Scores for all competitors pertaining to events held in 2019.

This is the only action that can return Freestyle Slalom Skating Competition to the level and fair playing field that it once was, and end the unjust penalisation of present (2022) active and hard-working competitors whom are being denied the advancement within the sport that their efforts - past and present - justify.

Furthermore, we call upon World Skate and its Technical Committee to issue a public apology to all competitors whom have - for undeniably good reason - felt and directly have been disadvantaged and demoralised by this unjustifiable action.

Make Freestyle Slalom Skating competitive again!
