End the ‘Move On’ orders against the Homelessness in Aotearoa
End the ‘Move On’ orders against the Homelessness in Aotearoa
The issue

Homelessness has affected thousands in Tamaki Makaurau, largely due to systemic failures beyond individuals’ control. The 'Move On' orders are inhumane and counterproductive because they forcibly remove people without understanding their situation, often worsening their well-being instead of addressing the root causes of their homelessness.
Their Dignity:
People experiencing homelessness often possess only what they can carry, which represents all they own that connects them to a sense of home. Forcing them to 'Move On' strips away their dignity and security. This harsh action punishes those needing support and handcuffing them for not qualifying for housing is undignified.
Studies have shown that homelessness in Aotearoa is staggering and represents a failure of public policy that has not kept an eye on the growing need. Instead of addressing this crisis with meaningful solutions, the imposition of 'Move On' orders serves only to displace the problem and not solve it.
Community Groups:
Our Community Charity Groups approach is to provide better access to housing for all homeless individuals and families in need, some who have young families and live in their vehicle because they have struggled. Rather than a judgmental assessment of individuals and families by our government departments, Community Charity Services have had to pick up the pieces. They are the groups that hear the difficulties of those in need and yet, like our homeless community, face financial constraints in providing support. Regardless they continue to advocate for housing solutions, access to mental health services, addiction recovery programs, and job training, in the hope of helping with homelessness. These are charity groups who have volunteers that keep their services available to help their homeless clients. They focus on strategies to restore dignity but also improve community safety.
Supporting this Petition:
The right to have a place to call home is a fundamental right. Every single person deserves the dignity and security that comes with stable housing. Rather than enforcing 'Move On' orders, we need to voice that criteria on housing-first initiatives is a priority.
By signing this petition, you stand with thousands of individuals who believe in compassion and well-being solutions to end homelessness. We urge the politicians to rethink their approach and put resources into creating sustainable, humane solutions that support our most vulnerable citizens. Let us be the voice of change for those who need it the most. Please sign this petition to end the use of 'Move On' orders and advocate for effective homelessness interventions.
