End the Division: Stop Black History Month Celebrations. It is RACIAL

The Issue

As a concerned member of society, I am writing this petition to address the issue of Black History Month and advocate for its discontinuation. This petition is personal to me because I have witnessed firsthand how this celebration creates division among our diverse community, particularly among children.

Growing up in my community, I have noticed that Black children do not celebrate Black History Month while their Caucasian, Indian, Jewish, and other friends do not have similar celebrations in their schools. This discrepancy has caused confusion and unhappiness among these young individuals. It is disheartening to witness such division at an early age when we should be fostering unity and inclusivity.

While it is important to acknowledge and learn from history, singling out one race for a month-long celebration can inadvertently perpetuate stereotypes and reinforce racial divisions. By highlighting only one group's history during a specific month, we unintentionally create an atmosphere that suggests their contributions are separate from the rest of society's achievements.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that other ethnic groups do not have dedicated history months either. The Jewish community does not celebrate Jewish History Month; Arabs do not commemorate Arab History Month; Hispanics do not observe Hispanic History Month; Chinese people do not recognize Chinese History Month; British citizens do not mark British History Month; Indians do not honor Indian History Month – the list goes on.

It is essential that we treat all races equally when it comes to celebrating our collective history. Instead of focusing on individual histories during designated months, let us work towards integrating diverse narratives into our education system throughout the year. By doing so, we can foster understanding and appreciation for all cultures without creating unnecessary divisions or promoting any narrative that may be offensive or demeaning.

I urge educational institutions across the country to reevaluate their approach towards teaching history by incorporating comprehensive curricula that highlight contributions from all races throughout the year. Let us move away from the outdated practice of singling out one race for a month and embrace a more inclusive approach that celebrates our shared history as humanity.

Together, we can put an end to the division caused by Black History Month and pave the way for a united society that values every individual's contributions, regardless of their racial background. Sign this petition to support the discontinuation of Black History Month and advocate for an inclusive education system that promotes unity, understanding, and appreciation for all cultures.
