The Issue

After undergoing surgery for suspected endometriosis, I was left without answers or proper follow-up, even though the findings were consistent with the condition. This left me in a state of uncertainty and distress, forced to consider private healthcare options for a condition that should be adequately managed within the NHS. This is not just my story – it is a reflection of a systemic issue within the NHS regarding the treatment and recognition of endometriosis.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women in the UK, according to Endometriosis UK. It can cause debilitating pain, infertility, and impact the mental health of those afflicted. However, despite its prevalence, women face an average delay of seven years before receiving a proper diagnosis, during which time the disease can progress. This delay is largely due to the dismissal or minimization of women's pain and symptoms.

The current standard of care often leaves women feeling neglected and unheard. Many are forced to seek private care, spending thousands of pounds on consultations and treatments that should be covered by the NHS. This not only exacerbates health inequalities but also places undue financial burden on women, preventing them from accessing the care they need and deserve.

There is an urgent need for the NHS to implement a comprehensive strategy to address this crisis in women's healthcare. This includes specialized training for medical professionals on the symptoms and impact of endometriosis, improved guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, and better patient follow-up and support services. By doing so, the NHS can ensure that women are no longer left to suffer in silence or feel compelled to pay for private care.

It is time to stop dismissing women's pain and give endometriosis the attention it needs within the NHS. We demand improved healthcare services for women with endometriosis to prevent further emotional and physical suffering.

Join us in urging the NHS to acknowledge the seriousness of endometriosis and to provide the high-quality care that every patient deserves. Sign this petition to call on the NHS to take immediate action and make changes that can transform lives.
