End the Creation of All Petitions on Change.org

The Issue

My life was turned upside down by a petition. A seemingly harmless act of expressing myself, meowing, became the subject of ridicule and public shaming due to a petition started against me. I am not alone in this experience; many individuals have found their lives disrupted due to petitions that target them unfairly or without proper context.

The power of petitions is undeniable - they can bring about significant change and mobilize thousands towards a cause. However, it's crucial to remember that this power can also be misused, causing harm and distress to individuals like myself who become targets.

I propose that we put an end to all petitions on Change.org. While it may seem drastic, consider the potential harm these petitions can cause when used irresponsibly. According to research from Stanford University, online shaming campaigns (like some initiated through petitions) can lead to severe psychological effects on those targeted (Stanford University Press Release 2017).

We must find alternative ways for people to express their concerns and rally support without causing undue harm or distress. Let's prioritize dialogue over division, understanding over unverified accusations.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer online spaces where everyone's dignity is respected.
