This ban has created an unfair divide. Individuals who can ride standard bicycles still have full access to public bike paths, while those who rely on pedal assistance are excluded from the same spaces. This policy removes access to outdoor activity, community connection, and wellness for many people.  

Many participants rely on pedal assist e-bikes not for convenience, but because they have physical limitations that make traditional biking difficult or impossible. Not all of these conditions are formally documented, but they are real.

Banning pedal-assist bicycle use on shared-use paths is not just restrictive, it is exclusionary. It directly contradicts our City’s commitment to making non-vehicular mobility more convenient, accessible, and inclusive for all. For many families, seniors, and individuals with physical limitations, pedal-assist bicycles are not a luxury, they are a lifeline to the outdoors, to movement, and to community.
