End the Anti-Homeless Policy in Columbia, SC

End the Anti-Homeless Policy in Columbia, SC
The Issue
Columbia City Council has kept a fence up at the gazebo in the Food Distribution Center of Finlay Park where many houseless people seek shelter during times of rain or extreme heat.
This fence has been up for over a year with the justification that Finlay Park will be renovated. No actions to renovate the park have been taken.
Until renovations begin, we demand that Columbia City Council take down the fence at Finlay Park in addition to allowing houseless people to seek shelter, sleep or rest on public property so long as the city has not provided them with alternative accommodations.
