End Tax Exemptions for Large Churches

End Tax Exemptions for Large Churches
The Issue
We have all been witness to the many wrongs done by large churches and religious organizations that enjoy tax-exempt status while clearly crossing their boundaries. Misusing their religious standing, many indulge in a range of inappropriate behaviors from mental to sexual abuse, to manipulation of their members' political beliefs.
It's estimated that in the United States alone, the total subsidy for religious organizations—through tax deductions and exemptions—adds up to over $71 billion a year (Amanda Holpuch, The Guardian). There's an urgent need for close inspection of these organizations, and the privilege of tax exemption should be revoked from those that misuse their status and promote non-religious activities such as influencing their members' political actions, and those which have more than 50 members.
The U.S. Constitution specifically addresses the separation of church and state; it’s obvious that when churches begin to influence political choices, they've crossed a boundary.
Let's urge our lawmakers to change our tax code and revoke tax exemption from large churches that indulge in non-charitable activities and possess undue political influence over their members. Let's bring back the truly envisioned separation of church and state! It's time to sign this petition and demand fair taxation of these large churches.
