End State of NH Inspection Law

End State of NH Inspection Law
The Issue
Every year the residents of NH are required to get their vehicles inspected for safety before it can be deemed safe for the roads. Not only is it costly to have it inspected (upwards of $50.00), but if it fails to then the cost to have it fixed can be substantial. In some cases it could be a matter of putting food on the table or fixing your car. If you don't have a honest mechanic, then forget it. Don't forget, also, the re-inspection fee. Too many people are being taken advantage of and, not to mention, the roads across NH are not safe for drivers.
It's been reported that 2% of accidents are caused by faulty cars, but what lawmakers fail to disclose is that fact the majority of accidents are caused by human error (94%) That's right. People who are distracted, road rage, wrong way drivers, the elderly. All have contributed to fatalities. Weather, such as fog, snow, and infrastructure problems, like pot holes are other contributing factors to automobile accidents. Not to mention, it's rare that you see media coverage of an automobile accident that was caused by a faulty car. It's mostly human error.
If NH residents are fortunate enough to see this bill get passed it would alleviate the financial pressures of trying make sure cars are safe. We, as residents, should be allowed to make these decisions on our own.
Most residents are already strapped financially in this economy and don't have the means to dish out hundreds to, sometimes, thousands of dollars to get it fixed; at some points superceding the worth of the car itself. And, buying a new one is not always an option. This would remain the norm for all of residents should it be denied.
It is my hope that the Senate passes this bill and that Governor Ayotte signs it into law and finally do right by the citizens of New Hampshire. We have all been in a situation where money is tight and vice-versa. Sometimes it's easy to forget the times when the struggle was real, especially if you're in a position of privilege.
But for those of us who still struggle, it would mean the world and set the precedent that the government does indeed care about their people, especially those who have a say in who sits in the House and the Senate seats. Please consider and pass this bill and help NH residents take this one stressor of their plates.
Thank You,
Sincerely Yours,
Brian Bourque (speaking on behalf of, perhaps, most of NH residents)
