I, as a concerned citizen and someone who has personally experienced the education system in Kolkata, am deeply saddened and appalled by the recent student death at Jadavpur University due to severe ragging. This incident is not an isolated one but rather a result of a long-standing practice of psychological and physical assault on newcomers by seniors and alumni. It is high time we take action against this heinous act that has been supported by university officials for far too long.

As an individual working in the education industry, I understand the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for students to thrive academically and personally. The trauma inflicted upon new students through ragging goes against these principles, causing irreparable damage to their mental well-being.

Jadavpur University holds NAAC accreditation and operates under a license granted by educational authorities. However, it is evident that they have failed to address this decade-old practice of student assault effectively. Therefore, I urge you all to join me in demanding the immediate cancellation of their accreditation and license until they rectify this issue.

Personal Story:
Being from Kolkata myself but currently residing in the United States, I feel deeply ashamed about the fact. 

The so-called "seniors" took pleasure in subjecting  newcomers to humiliation, fear tactics, physical abuse, and emotional trauma under the guise of tradition or initiation rituals. They are forced to describe their sisters and female members body parts and sexuality and that too an extend of forced to fantasize of having sex with own sister and describe that to the seniors.

This petition is personal to me because it represents not only justice for those who have suffered but also serves as an opportunity for me to make a difference and put an end to this vicious cycle. It is time we stand together and demand accountability from the university officials who have turned a blind eye to these atrocities for far too long.
