Petition updateEnd Rodeo Cruelty in NSWElectric shock devices are banned in horse racing but allowed in rodeos - why?

Dear Supporters

Melbourne Cup-winning horse trainer Darren Weir has been suspended for two years for using electric shock devices on his horses.

These devices are cruel and Weir has been justly punished for his use of them.  Why, then, are such devices able to be used on rodeo animals?  Electric prods are legal for rodeo participants to use on horses and cattle throughout Australia, except in Queensland, where they can only be used on cattle.

This is a disgraceful double standard which highlights once again the ways in which rodeo operators get a free pass from laws which apply to everyone else.

This petition is close to reaching 10,000 signatures.  Please help us reach that 10,000 milestone, in time for this year's promised overhaul of NSW animal welfare legislation.

Please share the petition as widely as possible.  Only the voice of the people will end the cruelty of rodeos and the abuse of horses and cattle (including calves) for human entertainment.
