Petition updateEnd Rodeo Cruelty in NSWResearch paper highlights extra cruelty faced by rodeo horses

Dear Supporters

This month, the University of New South Wales Law Journal published a paper highlighting the discrepancy between the treatment of racehorses and horses used in rodeos, in regard to the use of electric devices.

While horses used in racing are protected from such treatment, electric prods can be used on horses in NSW rodeos.

As the article points out, electric shocks cause mammals pain, fear and anxiety, and it is totally unjustifiable that animals of the same species are treated so differently.

This is just another example of the cruelty of rodeos, an industry which:

  • is exempted from animal cruelty laws;
  • operates under a 36-year-old code of practice which has never been updated;
  • faces next to no scrutiny;
  • does not need to report animal deaths and injuries;
  • is not required to have a veterinarian present at events; and
  • does not reflect practice on the land, but abuses animals simply for the sake of entertainment.

Please speak up for the animals and share my petition as widely as possible.

Please also contact the NSW Minister, the Hon. Tara Moriarty, and tell her it's time to end this cruel business.

You can contact the Minister here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/ministers/minister-for-agriculture-regional-nsw-western-nsw

Thank you for your support.  It is so important to keep speaking out and demanding change on behalf of the animals, who cannot speak for themselves.

Thanks also to AnimalKind for the photo above.
