Dear Supporters
The New South Wales Government is amending animal welfare legislation and has called for submissions.
The regulation being amended is the one which grants exemptions for rodeos from provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979.
This is an opportunity to call for wider changes to this law, and remove the exemption for rodeo operators from prosecution for the cruelty they inflict on bulls, steers, horses and calves.
Please make a brief submission calling for a further change to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulation to:
- stop exempting rodeo operators from the provisions of the Act
or at least:
- update the 36-year-old Code of Practice for Animals used in Rodeos;
- ban calf roping;
- ban the use of electric prods; and
- require the presence of a vet at every rodeo event.
You can have your say at this email address: pocta.reg@dpird.nsw.gov.au
More information is available here: Review of POCTA Regulation 2025
Submissions close at 11.59pm on 19 December.
A few minutes of your time could make a big difference for rodeo animals, so please don't miss this chance to speak up for them, as they cannot speak for themselves.
Thank you, and thanks to dedicated volunteers at AnimalKind for the photo in this update.
