Dear Supporters

The New South Wales Government has called for feedback on its new Draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulation 2025.

This regulation keeps in place the same exemption for rodeos from prosecution for animal cruelty that has been in place for the last twelve years.

Please take this opportunity to demand the exemption be removed before the regulation becomes law on 1 February next year.

Just email pocta.reg@dpird.nsw.gov.au and say your submission on the regulation is that Section 44, which exempts rodeos from key provisions in the Act, must be removed, because rodeos are:

  • proven to be cruel, with scientific studies to back this up;
  • opposed by every animal welfare and advocacy organisation;
  • do not reflect practice on the land;
  • operate under a 36 year old Code of Practice which has never been updated;
  • are banned or partially banned in the ACT, Victoria, South Australia and many overseas jurisdictions; and
  • are subject to effectively no scrutiny.

Rodeos are held on average more than once a week in various locations throughout NSW.  Each one of these events involves fear, distress and the risk of serious injury or death for the animals forced to participate - all in the name of human entertainment.  Nothing will change if people do not make it clear to the Government that they want this cruelty to end, and this is your chance, because the Government is asking for your views.

SPEAK UP NOW, BEFORE THE DEADLINE OF 19 DECEMBER.

Email pocta.reg@dpird.nsw.gov.au and say no to rodeos.

Thank you for your support for animals, and thanks to AnimalKind for the photo above.
