End Rape Culture

End Rape Culture
The Issue
In a lifetime, 1 out of 5 women are raped while 1 in every 71 men are sexually assaulted. Approximately 42.2% of female victims were assaulted before they were even of legal age.
Rape culture is a commonly used term in feminist theory that generally refers to the normalization of sexual violence towards females as a direct result of a society’s culture. Consequently, women are raped on a consistent basis and often times, never receive justice. Rapists are enabled by society’s views and the big media capitalizes off of the objectification of women at the expense of the safety of women and men. The first step to expunge rape culture in American society is through education.
By adding more comprehensive health classes to students' mandatory course, we can help eliminate sexual assaults among teens.
To do this, we must do 2 things:
1. Ensure health classes discuss sexual coercion, victim blaming, oversexualization, body shaming, and other aspects of rape culture.
2. Dispel dress code policies that could possibly damage a young girl's body image and comfortability with her sexuality.
These changes would empower young women possibly leading to more careers in STEM and management because females would no longer be forced into submissive mind states.
