End Premier League Bias: Fair Financial Regulations for All Clubs

End Premier League Bias: Fair Financial Regulations for All Clubs

The Issue

Football Fans United

Football equality for all clubs.

An investigation into the premier league conduct, including the negative impact of PSR and the inconsistency of allowable adherence to its rules.

Football finance expert Stefan Borson has uncovered some concerning information, which has been televised via talk sport.

Manchester United provided significantly more support to avoid PSR breaches than other clubs. Which equated to between 20% and 25% of the leagues Covid PSR allowances.

Chelsea able to spend over £1.2 billion on players over a two year period, and publicly flaunting the rules by selling assets to themselves which haven’t even been ratified by the premier league within the given timeframes.

Everton not provided the same support as Manchester United even though they requested it.

Nottingham Forest disadvantaged after being promoted to the league, and punished for selling a player after the PSR deadline, even though financially it was a significant amount of money which ultimately put them in a stronger position from an accountancy perspective.

There needs to be an element of common sense with these decisions regarding punishment.

PSR allowable losses of £105 million have not been aligned to inflation making it even harder for clubs with a smaller fan base to compete with the larger clubs. Had they been aligned the allowable losses over the 9 year period would have almost doubled, and therefore the likes of Nottingham Forest and Everton would not have been penalised with a points deduction, had they operated in the same manor as they did.  Plus no allowance for new owners to provide investment into the club they purchase. This can be evidenced with the likes of Newcastle United who arguably have the richest owners in world football, but they are prevented from making those investments which would see them be more competitive.

The general consensus with fans are the PSR rules in fact provide a level of protection for the so called “big 6” clubs (Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur), and the premier league provide these clubs with a more favourable outcome with their decisions.
This needs to stop.
