Placer County operates a predator animal control program, described on the Agricultural Commissioner's page. 

In addition to providing assistance on use of repellents, exclusion, and habitat modification, they provide free trapping and killing of animals like skunks, raccoons, foxes, opossums, bobcats, and coyotes.

The Placer County Agricultural Commissioner, Josh Huntsinger, knows killing wild animals is not a long term solution, yet the agency continues to provide these services - for free, using taxpayers money, instead of holding property owners accountable.

We are asking the Placer County Board of Supervisors and the County Agricultural Commissioner to adopt a STEPWISE approach to human-wildlife conflicts, similar to what is required under a state depredation permit.

For example:

Before being permitted to trap and or kill a nuisance wild animal, the property owner must first:

- Document the damage and confirm species causing damage.

- Use non-lethal methods to deter the animals: repellants, scare devices, hazing.

- Take preventive measures to protect property: predator-proof enclosures / fencing, proper livestock management.

If, after these efforts fail, they may be authorized to trap and kill only the target animal(s).
