End Pay-to-Win Practices in Minecraft Bedrock and Java Realms/Servers

The Issue

As an avid player, I am deeply concerned about the rampant Pay-to-Win (P2W) practices on Minecraft's Bedrock and Java Realms/Servers. These servers exploit their player base, which primarily consists of children, by offering game advantages for real-world money. This not only creates an unfair gaming environment but also exposes young players to potential financial exploitation.

Despite this ongoing issue, Mojang and Microsoft has done little to enforce rules and guidelines that would protect vulnerable individuals from such scammy behaviors by P2W server owners. It's concerning  to see a game that was built on creativity and exploration being marred by these unethical practices.

According to a 2019 study published in the Journal of Youth Studies, children are particularly susceptible to microtransactions in video games due to their lack of understanding about the value of money (Journal of Youth Studies). This makes them easy targets for P2W servers who prey on their desire for quick progression or rare items.

We need Mojang and Microsoft to take immediate action against these P2W practices. We demand stricter regulations on microtransactions within Minecraft servers and realms, especially those targeting young players. By signing this petition, you're supporting fair play in one of the world's most popular games and protecting our children from financial exploitation.

What is considered P2W?

P2W (pay to win) stands for a situation where player (donator) purchases an item/ ability/plot from a "donation store", giving him an advantage over others, using real world money, discord boosts, etc. just about any situation where money or a real money replacement is being exchanged.

It doesn't matter if non donators can obtain the p2w item / ability for free, it will still be p2w. This argument is very important, as it prevents very many loop holes that P2W servers use. Without this in place one could argue that: "Diamonds are very common! So I should be able to sell a full diamond kit for $10", there's no hard line between what is and isnt pay to win when using this type of logic.

P2W can also occur if selling an in-game currency with which can players purchase items giving them advantage. However exceptions can be made if the currency in question can only be used to buy cosmetic features, such as chat ranks, particle trails, ECT. However it's overly exploited in servers, as it makes it harder to remove, and makes a late game gameplay loop and encourages players to buy more and more just to keep up with other players.

Examples of P2W practices include but arent limited to:

● Owner selling kits or gear (for example sword with sharpness 20, armour, etc)

● Owner selling an in-game currency with what can donator purchase things giving an advantage to him

● Owner selling buffs or bonuses to statistics like health, speed, or damage

● Owner selling ranks or levels that provide access to weapons, abilities, items, etc
