End Ostrich Abuse at American Ostrich Farms

End Ostrich Abuse at American Ostrich Farms
The Issue
According to the Idaho Statesman's article titled "Ex-workers say ostriches die ‘in huge numbers’ at farm south of Boise. What the owner says", American Ostrich Farms, a slaughterhouse located in Idaho, claim to produce ostrich meat in a sustainable and ethical manner. Despite these claims, alleged evidence demonstrates the farm's use of unsafe living conditions, disregard for ostrich wellbeing, and unnecessary physical abuse towards the birds. This alleged treatment is a direct result of a lack of care for the safety practices necessary to farm these birds, and is a form of cruelty that must be stopped (Palermo, 2024).
Ostriches are highly intelligent, social, and fast creatures, however at American Ostrich farms they allegedly exhibit extreme stress symptoms and irregular behavior unseen in the wild. The alleged poor living conditions of the farm combined with a lack of care by the workers causes many ostriches to give up hope and die from stress. American Ostrich Farms has taken the fastest two legged animal in the world, native to Sub-Saharan Africa, and allegedly left them to die without proper domestication, habitat, nutrition, or safety regulations (Palermo, 2024).
Now more than ever, the ostriches at American Ostrich Farms need our help to be free. While these birds can live up to 40 years in the wild, they are often killed at 1-2 years old for their meat (Palermo, 2024). Shutting down American Ostrich Farms is crucial to ending their alleged unethical treatment of animals and exposing what really occurs behind the scenes. American Ostrich Farms allegedly intentionally hides the abuse from investigators and ethical standards reviewers while continuing to promote false ethical practices online.
Please sign this petition to ensure that American Ostrich Farms is effectively shut down and held accountable for the alleged abuse and neglect of thousands of ostriches. The safety and survival of these large birds is dependent solely on people like us to do the right thing.
